On April 14, 2011, Ennis Traffic Safety Solutions Atlanta, Ga., thermoplastic production facility personnel celebrated 500-days without a recordable injury.
The impressive run of 500 days injury free began on November 18, 2009 and achieved the date on April, 1, 2011. "Everyone is so proud of this accomplishment," said Bill Floor, Atlanta operations manager. "I had challenged the employees to come up with a slogan using the word STOP...because I wanted them to stop getting injured. The plant personnel came up with S.T.O.P., Safety Throughout Our Plant. We provided shirts for all employees with the S.T.O.P logo, and everyone at our plant wore the shirt every Monday as a reminder to start the week off safe...while working safe all week long."
The safety focus at the plant was also changed from a management driven safety program to an employee driven safety program. Once the culture was changed from management driven to employee driven, each and every employee felt empowered to stop and think about each situation as it relates to safety.
